Arabian Nights  translated by Andrew Lang Arabian Night is an English language version of  One Thousand and One Nights. This story  retells the ancient stories that have now become interpreted around the world, including the plight of Scheherazade, the adventures of Aladdin, and the voyages of Sinbad. I believe this story to be important to read and study because this classic story is a great example of how early stories in history can be inspiration to creating new ones. Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave  by Frederick Douglass.   Frederick Douglass, famed orator and former slave, wrote this narrative that is considered the most well-known of pieces written by former slaves and one of the most persuasive texts during the abolitionist movement in the United States. In the text, Douglass describes his life as a slave on his way to freedom. I definitely think this read is important to get to know

For week's assignment, I decided to make this illuminated manuscript based on media from an inspiring quote that I believe explains how media can be a source of encouragement for others, building each other up. For example, social media can be a great source for this.

For this week's assignment, I chose A Series of Unfortunate Events. This series is about the Baudelaire children and distant relative of whom they have to stay with due to an incident with the children's parents. With Olaf set to claim the family fortune for himself, the Baudelaire children determine to uncover the mystery behind a secret society from their parents past. With this of media. I've discovered that this experience can be different for everyone. I found personally to better experience a series of shows not watched all at once. I found that is better to take in the series bit by bit. With long form television it is nice to be able to get to know the characters in the series over time. But again the experience can be different for everyone. I also found that with long form television there can be more opportunities to stretch stories or even create something new in a way to the series that may have started off as a movie. The second comic book read for this week is My Favorite Things is Monsters by Emil Ferris. This novel is about a young girl named Karen Reyes and her investigation of the death of her of her neighbor in 1960's Chicago. I found it very inspiring to read about Ferris and her background story before diving into the graphic novel. Reading about her struggles with her being paralyzed and how/ what helped her overcome it made reading the graphic novel much to intriguing and inspiring. You can definitely see the hard work she put into this. As far as her artist voice goes, her work definitely is very unique. From her strong skill set with portraiture to her loose line work, we can see how well her style fits in with the story being told. We can feel/ get a sense of the authenticity in the artwork that helps us readers to connect with the story. It is as if we are reading from someone's personal journal. Overall, this is a great inspiring read.

For this weeks read, we were assigned to read a chosen comic. The first out of two that I've decided to read was Wimbleton Green. In summary this comic goes into the life of comic book collector Wimbleton Green. Throughout the comic we are brought through interviews of other characters about Green and are progressively revealed the mystery of why is so well known or so successful as a comic book collector.  Overall, from the style of this comic by reading through, I definitely see that the author's voice can be seen or described as humorous and character driven. Another thing to note that I found interesting was the classic illustrative comic book style the artist has with a limited color palette. I thought this was effective in bringing out the more humorous aspects in the characters.

This novel tells of a story about a hyper-realistic 3D video game names OASIS, based in the year 2045. Eighteen-year-old Wade Watts, player of the game OASIS, is on the search to find an Easter egg hidden inside the OASIS by its creator, James Halliday. I found this read very nice to go into for this class as it is a topic I'm sure a lot of people are interested in. The topics of video games and virtual reality. When that being said people of all ages can enjoys books with topics such as these. We can relate and enjoy reading about games that we once played in our childhood. This book can create a good variety of topics to discuss as well. Such as the future for gaming. Overall I think this read by Ernest Cline is great as far as topics go for leading into topics of discussions and an adventurous novel.
